HEALTHCARE 2.0 – EXPLORING 21ST CENTURY MEDICINE

According to recent research by Goldman Sachs, by 2025 the global market for AR and VR healthcare technologies will be worth $5.1bn. From the recording and streaming of surgical procedures for educational purposes, to the treatment of disorders, pain relief, behavioural medicine, immersive chemistry and of course training, this tech is set to revolutionise modern medicine.

However, when new technologies begin to transform the way we think, work and communicate, it’s vital to explore the social, cultural and personal impact they can have. With such a seismic shift, the public will need to feel reassured that these technologies have been implemented in a carefully considered fashion. The rapid adoption of immersive tech in medicine has thrown up a number of important questions that we’ll be addressing in our conference sessions:

  • How can immersive tech open the door to new ways of working and learning?
  • Are there ethical issues surrounding the use of these technologies?
  • Can we ensure access to these technologies in public healthcare systems?
  • Is the adoption of emergent tech in the best interests of the patient?
  • How do we balance current risks with future benefits?

EXPLORING THE POWER OF FUTURE TECH IN LEARNING

Technology is transforming all aspects of modern life. From national governance to social interaction, digital technologies have revolutionised the basic processes in all of our lives. It’s hardly surprising that one of the areas in which this change is being felt most profoundly, is the classroom.

As new technologies open the door to immersive experiences, it’s vitally important to get ahead of the curve. Throughout our Education Day (05 April), we will explore how immersive technologies and Artificial Intelligence are transforming the education landscape, providing powerful new tools for teachers to present engaging, interactive lesson content.

Our Education Conference will host experts, present real-world case studies, provide insight into this tech and examine how schools and universities are using it to change the way they educate, while exploring how the students of the future will interact and immerse themselves in content.

Please see below for details of our first session.

NB: This specialised session is open to teachers (attending with an Educator pass) and Conference Pass Holders only and will focus on equipping educators with the tools to disseminate the latest ideas surrounding future tech.

THE SUPER STUDENT: EXPLORE CURRICULUM INTEGRATED VR & AR

From high school to further education, learning is set to be transformed by the introduction of immersive technologies, especially for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math subjects (STEM).

According to the UK Commission for Employment & Skills, 43% of (STEM) vacancies are hard to fill, due to a shortage of applicants with the required skills and experience. Economic growth will place enormous demands on the STEM pipeline and as classroom sizes become larger, and teachers are fewer, this session will explore how AR and VR can take some of this strain.

This session will explore how schools, universities and apprenticeship schemes can use curriculum-integrated VR and AR to support the next generation, helping them to learn faster in a more personalised way, take up extra curricular learning and be taught remotely, giving the UK a workforce fit for the future.

NB: This specialised session is open to teachers (attending with an Educator pass) and Conference Pass Holders only and will focus on equipping educators with the tools to disseminate the latest ideas surrounding future tech.

LAYERED LEARNING – THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION

AR and VR are being touted as technologies of the future, but how will they shape the educational landscape? Will they replace teachers or are they just a passing fad? This session looks at how immersive technologies will form the future of education by providing a ‘layered learning’ approach which allows learners to explore environments at different levels using AR or VR. The session looks at what layered learning is, and why it is important, how immersive technologies work to produce layered learning and how it can be measured.

The session also explores how these technologies can be implemented at different price points and levels of complexity and the pitfalls to avoid in developing or buying products in this area. This session will give a clear understanding of the implications of how these technologies can move education forward as tools for teachers.
